Covid-19

GENERAL QUESTIONS

  • Because of COVID-19 some countries made it mandatory to have minimum insurance in place can you provide me with a proof of insurance?

If you provide us with your name and policy number and you are confirmed to have insurance with one of our insurance carriers, either us or your insurance carrier will provide you with a letter confirming your insurance. This will also apply to all your family members if they are insured and travelling with you.

  •  I have insurance through one of your insurers. How do I check if I’m covered for COVID-19?

Coverage for COVID-19 will depend on the terms and conditions of your specific coverage and policy wording. You will need to provide us with your policy number and where you obtained your coverage.
Many travel insurance providers have declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic and a known event. The fact that the Government of Canada travel advisories continue to change, COVID-19 is still considered to be a pandemic and a known event. As a general rule, if your policy has an overall exclusion on “Epidemic” or “Pandemic”, the insurance policy may not cover you for COVID-19.
You also need to verify if the Government of Canada has issued a travel advisory to your destination or your intended trip. The Government of Canada website can be viewed at:

  • My policy will not cover me for COVID-19 and I decided to travel to a destination where the Government of Canada has issued a travel advisory. Would I still be covered for non COVID-19 related incidents?

It depends on your insurance policy. Some travel insurance policies limit all benefits if there is a travel advisory in place for your destination, or the policy may only limit benefits as it relates to the reason for the travel advisory. You should read your policy to make sure you understand what is not covered, speak to your insurance broker, benefit consultant, or travel agent who sold you the policy or call the number provided in your travel insurance card if you have any questions before you leave.

  • I want to cancel my travel plans because I’m afraid to travel due to COVID-19. Am I covered?

Trip cancellation that is due solely to your concern or fear of travel related to an epidemic or pandemic, including COVID-19, is not covered under most travel insurance policies.

  • What happens if I am quarantined due to contracting COVID-19 While I’m travelling?

It depends on your coverage and the terms of the policy. Some policies would allow benefits to be extended under the Trip Interruption /Delay or Medical Expense benefits. Again, some policies may contain general exclusions on epidemic or pandemic and/or travel advisories. In this case, you may not be covered.

RETURNING TO CANADA

If you are a returning Canadian you may want to ask yourself few questions:
  • Can I return to Canada any time I want?
  • Do I qualify for any exemption?
  • Do I need to quarantine?
  • What tests do I need to obtain before my return?
  • Where do I get a Covid-19 test?
  • What is the ArriveCan app?
